U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a sharp warning Monday night to the creator of an app that allows users to report sightings of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, calling the tool a threat to federal law enforcement and criticizing CNN for its coverage of the technology.

The app, known as ICEBlock, was developed by Joshua Aaron, who told CNN he created the tool in response to what he views as aggressive immigration enforcement under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Aaron claimed the app is his way of “fighting back,” and compared the deportation of illegal immigrants to actions taken in Nazi Germany.

The app allows users to anonymously share the locations of ICE agents in real time.

Users can also include descriptions of agents’ clothing, vehicles, and other identifying details.

The app includes a disclaimer asking users not to interfere with operations or incite violence, stating: “Please note that the use of this app is for information and notification purposes only. It is not to be used for the purposes of inciting violence or interfering with law enforcement,” according to CNN.

During an appearance on Hannity Monday night, Bondi called the app dangerous and said it poses a direct threat to ICE agents and other federal officers. She also warned the developer, Joshua Aaron, that legal action may be forthcoming.

"Our ICE agents, all of our federal agents who are working hand in hand on these task force[s] — our federal agents from the Justice Department could be injured," Bondi said.

“He's giving a message to criminals where our federal officers are. And he cannot do that. And we are looking at it, we are looking at him, and he better watch out, because that's not a protected speech. That is threatening the lives of our law enforcement officers throughout this country."

Bondi also condemned CNN for what she described as “promoting” the controversial app. “Shame on them,” she said.

Top officials in the Trump administration echoed Bondi’s concern.

ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons said assaults on ICE officers have increased by 500% amid ongoing immigration enforcement operations.

Lyons said apps like ICEBlock contribute to the heightened risk agents face in the field.

Tom Homan, the Border Czar, also weighed in on The Will Cain Show, strongly condemning both the app and CNN’s coverage.

"It’s simply disgusting and any network that covers that is disgusting as well," Homan said.

The app’s existence and CNN’s reporting have sparked broader criticism from the White House and allies of the administration who argue that broadcasting the whereabouts of federal agents endangers their safety and undermines law enforcement.

In response to the backlash, a CNN spokesperson defended the network’s reporting in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying: "CNN reported on a publicly available app, which is generating attention across the United States, and reached out to ICE for comment prior to publication. After CNN published its reporting, ICE posted a response, which is now included in the story."

As of Tuesday, federal law enforcement agencies had not announced any legal action related to the app, but Bondi’s public remarks suggest that the Justice Department is examining its potential impact on officer safety and possible violations of federal law.

The incident has added to growing tensions between the media and the Trump administration over issues related to immigration enforcement, law enforcement safety, and the limits of protected speech in the digital age.
