A 21-year-old American student in Germany is speaking out after being slashed in the face with a knife while intervening in the sexual harassment of two women on a tram in Dresden, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The attack occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday morning and has sparked outrage after one of the suspects was released just 12 hours later.

According to Dresden police, the young American stepped in when two Syrian men began harassing two female passengers. One of the men then attacked the student with a knife, leaving him with serious wounds to his face and nose.

The student was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities arrested one suspect, identified as “Majid A,” after he fled on an electric scooter. Despite a criminal record that includes robbery, assault, and breaking and entering, he was released within half a day due to what officials described as a lack of evidence.

The decision has fueled criticism of Germany’s handling of migrant-related crimes.

The victim later posted a video from his hospital bed with his face heavily bandaged, condemning what he described as Germany’s failure to protect its citizens.

“If you all didn’t think that Europe had an immigration problem, especially Germany, let me drop some knowledge on you,” he said.

“In three minutes, that man that assaulted that young woman yesterday will be released from custody. He doesn’t belong in here. He’s illegal, a drug dealer, and very popularly known here, especially by the police.”

The American said this was not the first time the suspect had assaulted women. “It’s not the first time that man had beat up a woman,” he continued. “It’s not the first time that the other guy decided to take a swing at my face with a six-inch blade.”

He questioned why German law appeared not to apply equally. “If Germans are held to that law and that structure, but these people can just come in, swing knives, and hurt, abuse, terrorize, and oppress the citizens of Germany, then what do we do?”

Former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell shared the student’s video and called out German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. “Friedrich Merz must understand that the German people are sick and tired of this weak and woke response,” Grenell said.

According to German Federal Police data, the country experiences an average of 10 to 20 knife attacks per day, along with reports of two gang rapes per day. The Dresden incident has now become part of a broader debate over crime, migration, and public safety in Germany.
