The United States Space Force is taking a significant step in strengthening its recruitment efforts by establishing its own dedicated recruiting squadron.
This initiative includes the training of Guardian recruiters who will be instrumental in bringing new talent into the service, ensuring the Space Force continues to meet and exceed its recruitment goals.
Brig. Gen. Christopher Amrhein, commander of the Air Force Recruiting Service, announced this development at the Air and Space Forces Association's Warfare Symposium in Colorado earlier this week.
According to Amrhein, a lieutenant colonel has been appointed to lead the new recruiting squadron, which will be based in San Antonio, Texas.

"We are building out a Space Force recruiting element. It is on track to be a Space Force recruiting squadron to include the Guardian recruiters, to go do Guardian recruiting," Amrhein stated. "That's another positive step ... to meet the requirements that we need to bring in for the Air Force and the Space Force."
Joe Gangemi, spokesperson for the Air Force Recruiting Service, confirmed that nine Guardians have already completed their initial recruiter training and are currently undergoing additional instruction to further develop their skills.
This effort marks a shift towards a more specialized recruitment strategy tailored specifically to the Space Force’s unique needs.
Unlike other military branches that have faced recruitment challenges in recent years, the Space Force has continued to attract top-tier talent.

Last year, the service not only met but exceeded its recruiting targets, signing 71 new Guardians—well beyond its original goal.
As the youngest and smallest branch of the U.S. armed forces, the Space Force remains highly selective in its recruitment process.
The Department of the Air Force has now set a more ambitious target for 2024, aiming to bring in 954 new Guardians. Despite this significant increase in recruitment goals, Amrhein remains confident in the service’s ability to attract qualified candidates.
"Recruiting Guardians is not an issue," Amrhein explained. He noted that the Space Force has historically been in the position of turning away some applicants due to its selective process and limited spots.
The establishment of a dedicated recruiting squadron underscores the growing importance of the Space Force as the military continues to expand its focus on space-based defense and operations.
By building a recruitment infrastructure tailored specifically for the service, the Space Force is positioning itself to continue attracting highly skilled individuals who can contribute to its mission of protecting U.S. interests in space.
As the demand for space-related defense capabilities increases, the Space Force's investment in a dedicated recruiting force signals its commitment to sustaining a highly trained and capable workforce.
With specialized Guardian recruiters now in place, the service is well-positioned to meet its ambitious recruitment goals while maintaining its reputation for selectivity and excellence.
